Deadline for withdrawal of nominations ends for 2nd phase

Deadline for withdrawal of candidature on Friday ended for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls in 97 constituencies, spread over 13 States and Union Territories, which will go to polls on April 18.

Elections will be held in all 39 Parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu; 14 in Karnataka; 10 in Maharashtra; eight in Uttar Pradesh; five each in Assam, Bihar and Odisha; three each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal; two in Jammu and Kashmir; and one each in Manipur, Tripura and Puducherry. 

In Bihar, 69 candidates are in the fray in the second phase after withdrawal of nominations by two candidates. 

Withdrawal of nominations for the first phase ended yesterday. 

BJP on Friday released another list of 11 candidates which includes names of candidates from Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.

Congress also released two separate lists of 12 and five candidates for Lok Sabha polls. The lists include names of 4 candidates from Bihar, 7 from Odisha, four from Assam and two from Uttar Pradesh. So far, the party has released names of 310 candidates. 

In a separate list, the party said, actor Urmila Matondkar who had recently joined the party will contest Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai-North seat.

In Bihar, names of 23 candidates of Grand Alliance were announced today. At a joint press conference of the alliance in Patna, RJD leader Tejaswi Prasad Yadav said, some of the prominent names in the list are former Lok Sabha Speaker Meera Kumar of Congress and Sharad Yadav and Raghuvansh Prasad Singh from RJD. 

On the other hand, the CPI has announced that it would contest two more seats in Bihar. These are, East Champaran and Madhubani, apart from Begusarai.
