Maha govt de-notifies proposed petrochemical refinery to be set up in Nanar

The Maharashtra government today de-notified the proposed petrochemical refinery to be set up in Nanar in Konkan region of the state.

The decision to this effect was taken after a meeting between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Industries minister Subhash Desai and other senior government officials held today.

Informing about the decision, Desai said that the chief minister has signed the documents to scrap the proposed project in Nanar.

He said the project can be taken wherever people would like to welcome it. Last month, the chief minister while addressing a joint press conference after the BJP forged an alliance with Shiv Sena for upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections, had informed that the petrochemical refinery project will be shifted to some other part of the state.

After today's decision by the government to scrap the project in Nanar, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray has thanked chief minister Fadnavis and said it is the victory of the unity and struggle of the people from that region. He said the government had to respect the public sentiment, adding that his party never opposed any developmental project.

He further said the refinery project would have caused severe damage to nature, environment, farming and orchards. He also said that if people welcomes the project then Shiv Sena has no business to oppose the project.
