Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has rejected the resignation of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

In a letter published on state news agency IRNA, Rouhani said that he considers Zarif in the front line of resistance against broad pressures by the US and that the latter's resignation is against the expedience of the country.

Zarif, giving no specific reasons, had announced his resignation on Instagram on Monday.

Zarif’s departure will deprive Iran of its most skilled diplomat, a patient negotiator who was able to strike a deal with Western powers during years of intense negotiations.
