Nitin Gadkari to launch revised guidelines for chartering of ships by providing Right of First Refusal to ships built in India

UnionShipping Minister Nitin Gadkari will launch the revised guidelines forchartering of ships by providing Right of First Refusal to ships built inIndia. The measure will not incentivize ship building activity in the countrybut also help in raising the demand for such vessels and provide them withadditional market access and business support. 

 Accordingto an official press release, the policy will be launched in Mumbai on Tuesdayat the Regional Maritime Safety Conference. The two-day conference is beingorganised to discuss issues related to maritime security in the India-ASEAN subregion and to promote trade along sea routes. Delegate members from variousSouth Asian and South East Asian countries are also likely to deliberate aboutmaritime law, ship building, transportation of hazardous goods, marine oilspill, pollution and environmental safety. 

Themaiden edition of this conference is being organised by National MaritimeFoundation in association with the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry ofExternal Affairs.
