Citizenship will be only granted after due investigation, recommendation of the state govts: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today assured the people of Assam and the North East that the Citizenship Amendment Bill will in no way cause harm to their interest. Mr Modi was addressing a public rally at Changsari in Assam.

He said, citizenship will be only granted after due investigation and recommendation of the state governments. The Prime Minister asserted that his government is committed to provide shelter to those who are minorities in neighbouring countries and had to leave due to the atrocities inflicted on them.

Mr Modi also said, the NDA government is committed to implement the 36-year old Assam Accord within the stipulated time. He said, he would not allow anyone to destroy Assam for vote bank politics and only his government would fulfill the Assam Accord.
The Prime Minister also said, steps are being taken to grant ST status to 6 communities of the state. He added that his government is committed to make Assam the oil and gas hub of the country and in the last four years projects worth 14,000 crore rupees have been completed.
Mr Modi also laid foundation stones of several projects, including a six lane and 1600 meter long bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Guwahati to North Guwahati. He also laid foundation stone of North East Gas Grid which will ensure uninterrupted availability of natural gas across the region and boost industrial growth.

Foundation stones were also laid for City Gas Distribution Networks in Kamrup, Cacher, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts, a NRL Bio Refinery at Numaligarh and a 729 km gas pipeline from Barauni to Guwahati passing through Bihar and West Bengal.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister laid foundation stones and inaugurated various development projects at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh.

These include foundation stones for construction of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, and a permanent campus of Film and Television Institute of India, and the launch of DD ‘Arun Prabha’ Channel in Itanagar.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Modi said, basic infrastructure was a long standing demand of Arunachal Pradesh which was ignored by the previous governments. He said, his government has made sure that there is never a dearth of funds and determination for development.

The Prime Minister said, New India can only be possible if North-eastern part of the country sees speedy development in every field.
In the final leg of his visit, Mr Modi dedicated to the nation, Garjee - Belonia Railway Line at Swami Vivekananda Stadium at Agartala in Tripura. The line will make Tripura the gateway to South and Southeast Asia.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated New Complex of Tripura Institute of Technology at Narsingarh.

Mr Modi also unveiled the statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.

Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur is widely regarded as the creator of modern Tripura. He is credited with the planning of Agartala city.
Addressing a rally in Agartala, Mr Modi hit out at the Opposition, saying that the main job of the 'mahamilawatwalas' is to deride him and it seems they were all competing in the Olympics of hurling abuses at him.

The Prime Minister said, the Opposition leaders are only involved in holding each other's hands in meetings in Delhi and Kolkata for photographs. He said, the results of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections will show what it takes to lie to the people.
