Damascus condemns Turkey presence in north Syria

NSD Logo
Damscus has condemned Turkey's military presence in northern Syria as a violation of a 1998 protocol between the two countries.

The foreign ministry said that Ankara has repeatedly breached the Adana deal throughout Syria's eight-year war. The ministry also accused Turkey of supporting terrorists.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has insisted the Adana Protocol gives his country the legal right to deploy troops in the neighbouring country.

The Adana Agreement was signed in October 1998 to end a crisis between Syria and Turkey, sparked by the presence of the PKK terror organisation in Syrian territory.
