Railways to initiate fresh recruitment of two lakh 30 thousand more employees

Railways will initiate fresh recruitment of two lakh 30 thousand more employees in the next two years. The vacancies are proposed to be filled in two phases. The first phase of fresh recruitment of one lakh 31 thousand 328 posts will be initiated in February - March this year. 

The second phase of recruitment of 99 thousand personnel against the vacancies arising out of retirements will be initiated after the first phase recruitment is completed. 

Recruitment for one lakh, 51 thousand and 548 posts is going on. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said, 10 per cent of these vacancies will be filled in from Economically Weaker Sections. He said the current reservation to SC/ST, OBC and the Differently abled will continue in the Railway as usual.

Mr Goyal said Railway has extended 22 pairs of train services running on Indian Railways' system. These will provide connectivity between various places in the country. The Minister said these extensions will help in more gainful utilization of coaching stock and will augment revenue of Railways.
