SC rejects plea of Hizbul founder Salauddin's son
File Pic
Supreme Court has rejected the bail plea of Syed Shahid Yousuf, son of Hizbul-Mujahideen founder and a 'specially designated global terrorist' Syed Salauddin.
The apex court said yesterday that the accused is not entitled to bail once the trial court has granted an extension of time to the NIA to complete the investigation.
A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hemant Gupta said there is no illegality in the decisions of the trial court and Delhi High Court which had earlier rejected his bail petitions.
Yousuf, who is currently in judicial custody was arrested by the NIA on 24 October, 2017 from Budgam in central Kashmir.
The NIA alleged that Yousuf had links with banned terrorist organisation Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and was collecting funds from a terrorist outfit in Saudi Arabia on the directions of his father.
The case was registered against Yousuf on the basis of information that funds were being sent via hawala from Pakistan to Jammu and Kashmir to spread terrorism.
