Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan on Monday said an Emission testing Facility has been established at CSIR-NEERI and extensive training is in progress for conventional and green crackers for monitoring the emissions and sound.
Mr Vardhan stated that CSIR and its networking laboratories have formulated a project to enhance CSIR innovation ability for developing globally competitive technologies for reduced emission fireworks.
Briefing media in New Delhi this evening on new technology developed by CSIR for firecrackers with reduced emission levels, the Minister said firecrackers are considered as a major source of air pollutants during Diwali.
He said Council of Scientific and Industrial Research is aiming at providing solutions that not only address the pollution-related concerns of the firecrackers and fireworks but also protect the Economy and the livelihoods of the professionals involved in this trade.
The Minister said the Indian fireworks industry is over 6000 crore rupees worth of annual turnover and provides employment opportunities to over 5 lakh families.
