BJP President Amit Shah today reiterated government's commitment to double farmers' income by 2022 saying it has a clear roadmap in this regard. He said it is not a political step but a mission for the NDA government and it has taken several measures for the welfare of farmers. Mr. Shah was addressing a seminar on Reforming Agrarian Economy - Role of Insurance in New Delhi.
He said, recently, the government has taken the big decision to increase the minimum support price of Kharif crops to 1.5 times the cost of production. He said making the Prime Minister's crop insurance scheme effective is also a significant initiative to address the concerns of the farmers. Highlighting steps taken for the agriculture sector, the BJP President said Narendra Modi government has worked to address the problem of urea after coming to power in 2014 and there is no urea crisis now. He also stressed the need to increase the contribution of agriculture sector in GDP up to 30 per cent.
