Peace talks between Mizoram Govt, Manipur-based Hmar People's Convention end

In Mizoram, the first political level peace talks between the Mizoram Government and Manipur-based Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) have ended in Aizawl today on a positive note.

Sources said that after two days of talks, the two negotiating parties have reached an understanding to move forward towards finding peace for final settlement. They said, the peace accord is likely to be signed soon.

During the talks, Mizoram Government's 10-member team was headed by Lalrinmawia Ralte, MLA and Political Advisor to Chief Minister whereas the 10-member HPC (D) delegates were led by its Working Chairman LT Hmar.

Speaking to AIR News, Mizoram's Additional Home Secretary Lalbiakzama confirmed that the talks were held under conducive and cordial atmosphere.

Quoting sources, our correspondent reports that the landmark understanding reached today between the Mizoram Government and the HPC (D) will finally end three decades of Hmar political imbroglio in Mizoram.

The Manipur-based Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) is demanding Autonomous Council in Hmar dominated areas of Mizoram under Sixth Scheduled of the Indian Constitution.
