PM Modi to take part in golden jubilee celebrations of Auroville tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Puducherry tomorrow for the golden jubilee celebrations of Auroville.

This is the first time that Prime Minister will be visiting Puducherry. He is scheduled to pay homage to Auroville's founder spiritual leader Sri Aurobindo.

He will visit the meditation room of Sri. Aurobindo and is scheduled to interact with the children of the international school of education run by the Ashram.

Mr Modi will then proceed by road to Auroville, the city of Dawn, international township situated in the neighbouring Villupuram district of Tamilnadu.

The international project was envisioned by the Mother of Aurobindo Ashram and is dedicated to the ideal of human unity. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address a public meeting organised by the Puducherry unit of BJP before leaving for Chennai.

Auroville is a place visited by lakhs of people from around the world, seeking the peace of mind in their life.

The prime charter of the place is that it belongs to nobody in particular but to the humanity as a whole. In the centre of Auroville is the Matri Mandir situated in a large open area called Peace from where the future township will radiate outwards.

It was founded by Mirra Alfassa, called the mother. Mirra was born as the second child to an Egyptian mother and a Turkish father who had settled in France. In her twenties, she studied occultism in Algeria and returned to Paris. She worked with several different groups of spiritual seekers.

During her visit to India, she visited Sri. Aurobindo in Puducherry. Sri. Aurobindo recognised her as an embodiment of the dynamic expressive aspect of the creative force in April 1920.

Later she became the Mother who organised the growing group of followers around Sri Aurobindo.

Matri Mandir can be viewed as a large golden sphere which seems to be emerging out of the earth symbolising the birth of a new consciousness. It also means the temple of the mother.
