Hybrid Multiply Face Masks: Sustainable Indian alternative to N-95 masks

The Covid-19 pandemic has completely transformed the way the world used to operate, in just one and a half years!

Face masks, sanitizers, and social distancing have become the new normal amidst the fast-mutating virus, worldwide. Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare recommends masks as an invincible shield in the fight against the pandemic.
While surgical masks are tested to provide 97% protection against the virus, cotton masks too are proven to be 70% effective in installing its spread.

Which mask is the most effective in mitigating the spread of the virus?

In this regard, the N-95 face mask has been considered especially more effective. It is said to reduce the transmission, from an infected person to a healthy person more effectively. However, they are inaccessible and inconvenient for many people. These are single-use, disposable masks, that are expensive as compared to other available masks.

Thus, in view of the shortcomings of the N-95 masks, Parisodhana Technologies Pvt developed and introduced the SHG-95 masks.

Indigenous SHG-95 mask blocks 99% bacteria:

The SHG-95 ‘made in India’ masks can be a viable alternative to the N-95 masks. It can block about 90 percent of the polluted particles and about 99 percent of bacteria. They are comfortable to wear since they are made from hand-woven cotton fabric and are thus, breathable.

The advantage is further increased by the installation of a filter surface. The SHG-95 masks are reusable as they can be washed and worn again & again. Additionally, these masks are available at an affordable price range of Rs. 50-75, making these highly accessible.

About Parisodhana Technologies Pvt. Ltd:

Parisodhana Technologies Private Limited is a private Indian company that was registered in Hyderabad, in June 2016.

It is currently engaged in the development of health and wellness-related products. It is being supported by BIRAC, established by the Department of Biotechnology. It is an interface agency of the Government of India to empower emerging biotechnology enterprises to undertake strategic research and develop the products needed by the country.

Means of livelihood for many self-help groups:

It is noteworthy that so far 1,45,000 such masks have been sold. The initiative is also being supported by Grand Challenges of Canada. It is being manufactured keeping in mind the increasing demand for masks during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The innovative initiative proves to be a means of livelihood for many self-help groups and a viable tool to mitigate the spread of the virus.
