Bangladesh reports highest single day COVID infection in 40 days, highest deaths in 30 days

The COVID 19 cases and deaths in Bangladesh showed a sharp increase on Tuesday as 44 people died and 2322 fresh corona positive cases were reported in the country over the last 24 hours.

According to the latest bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of Bangladesh, death toll due to COVID in Bangladesh has gone up to 12,913 while total infections have crossed 8.15 lakh.

Earlier, Bangladesh had reported 2341 COVID 19 infections on April 29 and 56 deaths on May 9 as the highest figures for infections and deaths in a single day.

The sample positivity rate also went up to 12.12 percent in the country. Bangladesh has so far tested over 60.86 lakh samples for COVID 19 infection.

In order to contain the spread of the Corona virus Bangladesh has extended the COVID restrictions till June 16. Several districts and local areas in the country have announced lockdowns in view of the spike in corona positive cases.

In the central-western part of Bangladesh, Natore and Singra municipalities have imposed week-long lockdowns till June 15 as the sample positivity rate went up to 62 percent in the municipality areas. Public transport will not operate and shops and malls would remain closed during the lockdown in the municipalities. In the border area of Chapainawabganj, though the lockdown was lifted, several restrictions on public gathering and movement of vehicles continued to be imposed till June 16.
