Eminent educationist and former vice-chancellor of Anna University M.Ananthakrishnan died this morning while undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in a private hospital in Chennai. He was 93. He served as Vice-Chancellor of Anna University for two terms and was chairman of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.He also served as chief science officer in the United Nations in New York.
He received several awards, including Padma Shri in 2002 and the Order of Scientific Merit from the President of Brazil in 1996. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Stalin expressed condolences on the death of Ananthakrishnan. In his condolence message, Stalin said that the State had lost a great educationist who revolutionised professional education bringing a single window system for more students to study engineering and medicine.
