The Government of India on Monday announced a one-time subsistence allowance of Rs 1,500 for each transgender as immediate support to meet their basic requirements during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Just like everyone else fighting with COVID in the country, the transgender community have also been critically affected by the pandemic majorly because of serious disruption of livelihoods. The ongoing situation in the country is compelling this marginalized community into extreme distress and an acute shortage of basic needs like food and health.
