Nagal to clash with Marcora, Prajnesh to take on Otte at French Open qualifiers

India’s singles players Sumit Nagal, Prajnesh Gunneswaran, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Ankita Raina will contest in the first round of the French Open 2021 qualifiers, which will begin today.

In the men’s qualifiers, 23-year Nagal is yet to earn a main draw berth in the Clay court Grand Slam and must make a good start against the 191st ranked Italian Roberto Marcora.

The left-handed Prajnesh, ranked 149, will take on Germany’s Oscar Otte, ranked 152 in the first round of qualifiers. Ramkumar, who has failed to enter the main draw of a Grand Slam in a number of attempts, will open his campaign against American Michael Mmoh, ranked 168.

Ankita Raina, the only Indian in the women’s singles qualifying event, will take on Australia’s Arina Rodionova in the first round.

The French Open qualifying rounds will run from today to 28th of this month while the main draws will get underway from 30th of this month at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris.
