|Former Attorney General, veteran lawyer and Padma Vibhushan awardee Soli Sorabjee passed away this morning after getting infected with COVID-19.
Mr. Sorabjee held several offices in organizations of national and international repute during his long and noted career in the field of law. The 91 year old legal luminary is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons.
President Ram Nath Kovind has expressed grief on the demise of eminent jurist Soli Sorabji. In a tweet, Mr Kovind said, in the passing of Soli Sorabji, we lost an icon of India’s legal system. He said, Soli Sorabji was among the select few who deeply influenced evolution of constitutional law and justice system. The President said, awarded with Padma Vibhushan, he was among most eminent jurists. He expressed condolences to his family and associates.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has expressed anguish on the passing away of legal luminary and former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee. In a tweet, the Vice President said, he was a champion of human rights and brought international repute to India with his work. He said, Mr Soli Sorabjee was an institution in himself and an authority on all matters of law and jurisprudence. The Vice President said, his death leaves an irreplaceable void in the field of judiciary. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family members.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sadness on the demise of eminent jurist Soli Sorabjee. In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, Soli Sorabjee was an outstanding lawyer and intellectual. He said, through law, Mr Sorabjee was at the forefront of helping the poor and downtrodden. The Prime Minister said, he will be remembered for his noteworthy tenures as India’s Attorney General. He expressed cindolences to the family and admirers of Mr Sorabjee.
Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed grief over the demise of noted jurist and former Attorney General of India, Soli Sorabjee. In his condolence message, Mr Shah said that Soli Sorabjee was a doyen of the legal fraternity, who will always be remembered for his contribution in the field of constitutional law. Mr Shah also expressed his condolences to his family.
