To ramp up oxygen supply, Assam operationalises two new oxygen generation plants

Aimed at fulfilling the huge rise in the demand for supplemental oxygen to treat Covid-19 patients, Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) will operationalise two new oxygen generation in Assam’s Dibrugarh district from today.

According to the official statement released by AMCH,” Each of the oxygen generation plants is capable of producing oxygen gas equivalent to 100 jumbo cylinders.”

AMCH has a daily oxygen consumption of equivalent to 120 – 140 jumbo cylinders, which will be directly supplied to treat Covid-19 patients through pipeline, the statement further added.

Additional, there would be reserve stock of 60-70 jumbo cylinders to meet the future surge in demand at the medical hospital.

Furthermore to bolster the demand of oxygen supply, the Assam government has taken a slew of majors to ramp up oxygen production in every district of the state.

The construction of oxygen plants which began in October last year under the ambit of the Centre and the supervision of state government will be completed by this year, said AMCH authorities.

Meanwhile, neighbouring Bhutan will supply liquid oxygen to India from a new plant being build at the Samdrup Jongkhar district in Bhutan. With a production capacity of 40 metric tonnes of liquid oxygen, the oxygen will be transported to Assam with the help of cryogenic tankers.The oxygen generation plant is a joint venture between M/s S.D Cryogenics Gases Pvt. Ltd., a Bhutanese company and Meghalaya Oxygen Pvt. Ltd, an Assam-based Indian company.
