|The Tamil Nadu Government has issued orders to purchase one crore 50 thousand vaccines on Wednesday. In a statement issued at Chennai, the Government said that vaccination drive has been intensified in all the districts for people above 45 years of age.
A total of more than 55 lakh people have been inoculated in the State till now. With the announcement of vaccines for people above 18 to 44 years from May 1st, the health department has been making arrangements for the purpose. In a bid to control the wild spread, the Chief Secretary has ordered that stand alone shops with more than 3000 sq feet should be closed down as a preventive measure.
Five zones in Hot spot Chennai has added more than a lakh of active cases in the past ten days. Corporation Commissioner Prakash has said that all private hotels and hospitals were permitted to start the COVID care centres with necessary facilities immediately with just an information to the Corporation. Anna University has postponed an online re-test for students from its four campuses scheduled to begin on May 3 due to Pandemic. IIT Madras has postponed its end semester exams scheduled from May 10.
