India gets elected to 3 UN ECOSOC bodies

Permanent Mission of India to United Nation on Tuesday announced that India has been elected to three UN Economic and Social Council key bodies which includes, Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, Executive Board of UN Women and Executive Board of the World Food Programme

Taking to Twitter, the mission announced, India gets elected to 3 UN ECOSOC bodies- Commission on Crime Prevention & Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), Executive Board of UN Women and Executive Board of the World Food Programme.

Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice:

Established by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) resolution 1992/1, the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice functions as a decision-making body of the United Nations in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice.

India is set to begin its three-year term starting from January 1, 2022.

Executive Board of UN Women:

India was elected to the Executive Board of UN Women for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2022.

The main function of the Executive Board of UN Women provides guidance to the Under-Secretary-General/Executive Director on the operational work of UN-Women; ensures that its operational activities and strategies are consistent with the overall policy guidance set forth by General Assembly & ECOSOC.

Executive Board of the World Food Programme:

The Executive Board of World Food Programme is a supreme governing body. The Executive Board this year elected Dr. Rajender Bommakanti, Alternative Permanent Representative of India as Vice-President.

The Board provides intergovernmental support, policy direction and supervision of the activities of WFP. India was elected to the Executive Board of World Food Programme for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2022.
