Odisha: Pipili By poll postponed after demise of Congress candidate

In Odisha, polling for the by election to Pipli Assembly constituency has been postponed following the death of the Congress candidate in the fray yesterday. Briefing media in capital Bhubaneswar a short while ago, the Chief Election Officer Mr Sushil Kumar Lohani said that the Election Commission of India have been informed about the same. He said, the Election Commission will issue a fresh notification in this regard.

Addressing the press meet, the Chief Election Officer said that following the notification the aggrieved party will be allowed 7 days time to file fresh nomination to contest the bye-election.

The Election Commission will also issue a fresh schedule to this effect. Polling for the Pipili assembly seat in the Puri district of the state has been postponed by the Returning Officer following the death of Shri Ajit Mangaraj, the Congress candidate yesterday. Voting for the assembly seat was set to be held on the 17th of this month.
