61 days ban imposed on marine fishing starting today in Andhra Pradesh

The state government have issued a ban on marine fishing for 61 days, starting from April 15 to June 14, in the territorial waters of Andhra Pradesh.

This is an annual announcement that is made to maintain effective fishery resources and conservation of biodiversity during the marine breeding season.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, has issued guidelines to impose a uniform ban on fishing by all fishing vessels in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Following that the fishing is prohibited by all mechanised boats and fishing crafts fitted with outboard and inboard engine i.e. motorised fishing boats. The traditional non-motorised boats are exempted from this ban.

During the ban period of two months, more than 2,000 mechanised and motorised boats will not be allowed from fishing in the sea. However, the State government will provide ₹10,000 financial aid to each fisherman during this period.

Every summer all the fishermen have to strictly observe the embargo on marine fishing. Those who violate the orders are penalised under the law as per the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1995.
