  • Efforts are on to make India a global hub for  design, development and manufacturing of telecom equipments, says, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

WN-PM MODI-5G

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said India has the potential to be the global hub for design, development and manufacturing of telecom equipments. Mr Modi was delivering an inaugural address at the virtual India Mobile Congress (IMC) through video conference today. He urged the participants at the conference to work in this direction. Mr. Modi said, India has achieved much success in the mobile phone manufacturing and it is emerging as one of the most preferred destination. He mentioned how mobile technology has immensely helped the vulnerable sections of the society during th COVID pandemic.

WN-INDIA-QATAR

India and Qatar on Tuesday, decided to create a special Task-Force to further facilitate investments by Qatar Investment Authority into India. Over a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amir of the Qatar, Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Mr. Modi also resolved to explore Qatari investments in the entire energy value-chain in India.

Later in a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said said that he had a pleasant conversation with the Amir of the Qatar. Mr Modi said, he conveyed greetings for Qatar’s forthcoming National Day. He added that Qatar is a vital pillar of India’s energy security and a valued source of FDI.

WN-NARAVANE-UAE

In a first, India’s Army Chief General Naravane will visit UAE and  Saudi Arabia begining Wednesday. During the visit, he will meet his counterparts & senior military leadership of these countries.

WN-FARMERS-UAE

In another development, a delegation of farmers, growers, businessmen and government officials from the Union Territory of J&K, with an aim to promote horticulture produce of the UT in the international market and tap the Gulf trade, is participating in the UAE-India Food Security Summit 2020. The Summit is being held from 7th to 10th of December.

WN-CHINA-INDIA

China has said that China and India have been in communication through diplomatic and military channels on the border issue. In response to a question, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said, the two sides are working to further de-escalate the border situation in eastern Ladakh and will have consultations to determine specific arrangements for the next round of talks.

India has maintained that the onus is on China to carry forward the process of ‘disengagement’ at the friction points in eastern Ladakh. In the last round, which was the 8th round of Corps Commander-level talks, both sides agreed in a joint statement, to push for the settlement of ‘other outstanding issues’, so as to jointly maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas. The talks were held on 6th November to resolve the border standoff that erupted in May.

WN-EU-BORIS

Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to personally visit Brussels to find a way out of the impasse as the deadline looms large for a trade deal on BREXIT.

In a Joint statement on Monday EU Chief, Ms. Ursula von der Leyen and Mr. Johnson said that they took stock of the ongoing negotiations. It added that significant differences remain on three critical issues: level playing field, governance and fisheries.

WN-VP-INNOVATION

Vice President of India Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu emphasised that fostering student-entrepreneurship through innovation programmes is extremely critical and universities need to establish close linkage with industries to mentor and handhold students with novel business ideas.

Virtually addressing the TiE Global Summit-2020 on Tuesday, Vice President highlighted that  the world will need about a half a billion new jobs by 2030. He called upon the established entrepreneurs and chambers of commerce, associations like TiE to mentor the next generation. He underlined the importance of Universities in promoting knowledge sharing and fostering entrepreneurial skills of students.

WN-CHINA-SANCTIONS

The United States has imposed financial sanctions and a travel ban on 14 senior Chinese officials over their alleged role in Beijing’s disqualification of Hong Kong’s elected opposition legislators last month. The sanctions were imposed against 14 vice chairpersons of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), the top decision-making body of the Chinese legislature.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement said, “Beijing’s unrelenting assault against Hong Kong’s democratic processes has gutted its Legislative Council, rendering the body a rubber stamp devoid of meaningful opposition,”.

In response, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a news briefing on Tuesday that Beijing may take counter-measures. She also urged the United States to withdraw the decision.

India has called for global coordination to deal with future health emergencies. Addressing the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on Global Health and Foreign Policy, India said that the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted systemic weaknesses in health systems and vulnerabilities in the capacity to prevent and respond to pandemic threats.

The WHO has confirmed that the number of COVID19 infections has crossed 66.73 million worldwide.

Global stocks saw losses on Tuesday as COVID-19 infections surge and London and Brussels remain stuck over the finalization of a trade deal.

WN-KEENAN-VACCINE

Margaret Keenan, a 90-year-old from Britain, has become the first person in the world to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine outside of a trial following its rapid clinical approval.

Britain began rolling out the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech on Tuesday.

The mass inoculation has raised hopes that the world may be turning a corner in the fight against a pandemic that has crushed economies and killed more than 1.5 million.

India chaired the 3rd meeting of BIMSTEC Transport Connectivity Working Group in virtual format on Tuesday to finalize the draft BIMSTEC Master Plan for Transport Connectivity.

On to sports now, In Football, a clash of titans is imminent as Messi and Ronaldo face off in the UEFA Champions League group stage match between Barcelona and Juventus Tuesday night.

In cricket, India lose the 3rd and final T20 match against hosts Australia by 12 runs in Sydney on Tuesday but win the series 2 to 1.
